@EuroLeague: Zalgiris – Red Star, First Round

0

Serbian basketball club Red Star flew to Kaunas for its first match in EuroLeague 2017-2018 season where they will face Lithuanian club Zalgiris today, Friday, October 13th at 7 p. m.

In this game will face Lithuanian champion and Serbian and ABA League champion from previous season, but both teams changed a lot in their backcourt over the summer so these are new teams facing each other.

First sport in Lithuania is basketball a synonym for basketball is definitely Zalgiris. Club is playing in domestic championship, VTB (regional) league and EuroLeague. National league is lasting longer than in other countries because in Lithuania everyone is crazy about this sport, especially in Zalgiris. Club is so big and it is growing even more. One great fact is that there are 200 employees in this Lithuanian club.

New player in Zalgiris is member of Serbian national team that won silver medal at EuroBasket Vasilije Micić and his task will be to stop Nikola Radičević from Red Star, who has good driving skills. Red and whites have a lot of good players in their roster so Zalgiris will have a hard task to stop them under the basket because they have Pero Antić, Milko Bjelica and French Mathias Lessort, who showed in previous three matches Serbian team played in regional league how dangerous he could be under the basket. Lithuanian team is also dangerous with lot of talented young players and having basketball legend Sarunas Jasikevicius as a head hoach is definitely a big deal.

There should be a great basketball atmosphere at Zalgirio Arena, because both teams have great players who know how to play in crucial moments. Also, host will have crowd to support them so they will act as a six player and will help the team to try to win at home in the Round 1 of EuroLeague season 2017-2018.

There are some similarities between Lithuanian and Serbian clubs (both clubs have lot of domestic players and both are playing aggressive basketball), especially in defense.

Before the trip to Lithuania, captain of Serbian red and whites Branko Lazić was talking about firs match against Zalgiris: “This will be very difficult match for us. Zalgiris is a very good team, with very good atmosphere in their Arena. They are representing country that loves basketball. This game is opening game for the second championship we are competing in this season, so we are going there to fight, to try to surprise them and if we have a chance in that game we will definitely try to win the game”, said captain of Red Star and member of Serbian national team.
